The Trip.

The Lil Abner Foundation hosted the 6th Annual Disney On Wheels  March 1st to 3rd 2024. We took 45 medically fragile children from Miami Dade and Broward County, to visit Disney’s Magic Kingdom for the 1^st time in their lives.

The Story.

On Friday, we left Dolphin Mall Parking Lot, after sharing our first meal with the children, over 100 volunteers, and many of our sponsors. The group was transported in 3 coach buses, ambulances and non-emergency vehicles equipped for wheelchairs, to the Grand Floridian Hotel and Resort at Walt Disney World. There a reception and dinner with Mickey Mouse was waiting for them, the children received gifts and accessories that they would use the next day.

The second day, we visited the Magic Kingdom and needless to say, we have many beautiful stories to share about each child’s experience and their caregivers.  Finally, on  Sunday morning we had breakfast with the Disney characters at the Grand Floridian Convention Center.

“For days I wanted to write to you and send you our infinite thanks for such a wonderful experience for allowing us to be part of the select group of children who attended Disney on Wheels 2024. For Sebastian the entire trip was magical. He enjoyed every moment and I know they created memorable memories in his mind and heart. Personally, it was a literal journey towards me, it had been years since I connected with my emotions. They have been difficult years, from the spiritual, personal, professional, to the management of interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence. This walk definitely had an impact on me as well. It was a rollercoaster ride. Seeing each of the other dads, seeing each of the other children, took me to another level of understanding and gratitude. Seeing the love and willingness of each one of you, the organizers, volunteers… makes me think that there are still wonderful people in this world, who even without knowing them can have a space in your heart.
